A lot of bloggers struggle to come up with Instagram content that fits with their brand but doesn’t necessarily need a blog post. Sometimes you really want to change it up and offer something totally unique, and other times you want to stay on-trend and just post about something you know will be well-received. This balance is something all bloggers try to achieve, and social media is no different. Be sure to let us know which kinds of content perform best for you, and which you’d love to learn more about!
The greatest part about these Insta photos is that they give you something awesome to do. I live in LA, one of the few places it’s not seen as crazy to go on a whole adventure for an Instagram, and it’s really cool how it leads you to discover new places and pursuits! As superficial as it sounds. :)
20 Instagram Post Ideas
1. Search Yelp for a new coffee shop and get that perfect latte art photo on a pretty tabletop!
2. Challenge yourself to find a backdrop you already own to use as a photo. Then take a photo of a product such as a new candle, beauty products, plants, etc., with it as the background. I have this linen beach poncho I use as a cozy textured background way too much. The great thing about posting product photos is you can always tag the brand/maker, which helps you gain exposure.
3. Collaborate with one of your fave local shops for a social media shoot. We do this a lot for our site Conscious Shop Collective and it gives us exciting content while giving a great brand creative assets.
4. Get that brunch photo. Brunch is never a bad idea, so why not?
5. Instagram is helpful if you’re in a crafting rut. It can force you to create a fun DIY that you know you’ll want to share on social media. While you shouldn’t create *just* for social media, sometimes the added motivation helps!
6. Document your favorite corner of your house.
7. If you’re a #crazyplantlady, you’re in luck! Plant and flower pics are always well received on Insta!
8. One thing I’ve learned about Instagram is that people love good pet photos, but only if they’re taken in good light or in a cute, unique space. Just posting selfies with your cat isn’t enough (sadly!). I follow @neelandcliff and even though they are the cutest kitties EVER, I think it’s really Ezgi’s beautiful styling + photography that made this account so successful.
9. Farmers market flowers are always a hit!
10. Take an artsy portrait of a friend and post it. Even if you’re not a photographer, social media is a great place to exercise your creativity and take risks.
11. Post in a category you never post about. For the longest time, I stayed away from posting anything about my writing projects. Coffee and flowers were my thing! But you’ll never know if one of your ideas will be successful if you don’t experiment every now and then.
12. Find a great vantage point for sunset photos in your neighborhood. Seriously, this will provide endless content and lots of beautiful, meditative walks/hikes!
13. Create a graphic with your favorite quote. The challenge here is to test your graphic design skills (or download an app!) to create something truly unique.
14. Head to your favorite nature spot for golden hour and snap some photos to post.
15. Visit a nursery. Like I said, lifestyle bloggers love a good plant pic!
16. Give followers a peek at your favorite place in your city. For me, there’s a coffee shop, park, and beach I love the most. I try to post about them every now and then so people can see my favorite parts of LA.
17. Take yourself on a neighborhood tour and photograph interesting houses or findings along the way. I love the community of historic house hunters on IG, it’s so fun to get a little history lesson with each post!
18. Take a stand. Post about an important issue facing you/your community today. I always have a lot of things to share on twitter/FB, but when it comes to Instagram it’s hard to find a visual to represent my take on certain social, political, and environmental issues that I care deeply about. Take this challenge with me and wear your heart on your sleeve!
19. Post something that leads followers to your Instagram stories. For example, if you’re visiting the farmers market, post a photo that includes a CTA for users to head to your story to see what you bought.
20. Spread the Insta love and regram from one of the accounts you find the most inspiring. I don’t mean regram whatever you see, but take a moment to think about your favorite users and find ways to help promote their work.
