Every single day, I find myself inspired by new color combinations. Maybe these colors are part of someone’s outfit or the paint colors of a quirky building. Whatever it is, I’m always reminded that the most unexpected colors usually end up looking stunningly beautiful together. Among the many color palette tools on the web, these are my top five favorites:
The. Best. Thing. Ever. Adobe Color CC is an app that you can access via computer or mobile device. You may remember it as its former name, Adobe Kuler. I love this app because it allows you to create palettes based on color rules (complementary, analogous, triad, etc.) or choose all custom colors.
In addition to that, you can upload a photo and the app will choose colors from it! And you can set the color mood. How freaking cool is that?
2. ColourLovers
ColourLovers has been around for a long, long time! It’s more than just a color palette generator – it’s a community! I could talk about color schemes for days on end, and it’s cool to know that other people feel the same way. ColourLovers has grown so much over the years. In addition to creating color schemes, you can create patterns, shapes, and brand mood boards.
3. Paletteon
Have you heard of Paletteon? It’s a color scheme designer with a whole lot of options. After you create your color palette, you can preview it on patterns, layouts, and even animations.
4. CSS Drive: Image to Colors Palette Generator
Like Adobe Color CC, CSS Drive lets you upload a photo and draw out specific colors from it! It gives quite a few more color options and provides you with the Hex colors, so that you can copy and paste them right into your CSS. Perfect.
5. Design Seeds
Okay, everyone in the world blogs color palettes based on photographs but Design Seeds has, by far, the most extensive archive of color palettes. I could keep scrolling forever!
Have you used any of these sites? If you have any favorite color palette resources, please list them in the comments!

I had a look at Design Seeds recently, and like you I found it rather addictive! I like the look of the tools which allow you to create a palette from a photo. I’m new to all this, but I’m looking forward to having a play with these tools. Thank you for the tips! :)
