I think we all know 99% of the blogging world is pretty curated. And that’s totally okay, in my opinion. I don’t want anyone to have to see my messy house or hear the details of my personal life – that’s what close friends are for! To blog authentically doesn’t necessarily mean you have to overshare or always display the messiness of your life. I think it has more to do with the information you disclose to your audience (as it relates to blogging – like if you’re monetizing site) and being honest about what you know. I really like to believe that we all aim to run our blogs in a way that is genuine. Reading stories from other bloggers about their thoughts on authenticity and how they practice it is always super inspiring to me! Check out the links below for some of my favorite posts on the topic.
1. Being unique and embracing who you are is such an important part of running a business! People want to know the real you. Check out this post from Heather Crabtree to learn some fun ways to be authentic in your business.
2. I love this article from A Girl, Obsessed on how to organically grow your blog. She shares so many great ways to put yourself out there and build an audience in a genuine way.
3. One of my favorite reads this month is from Chelsea Thornton’s blog. She writes about how being creative is being authentic since you’re sharing your unique self with the world. A lot of people think curated content is dishonest but if it’s something original that you created or styled, why not post it?! “People will click for the beautiful imagery but they will stay for your unique and honest voice.” So true!
4. Lately I’ve been missing the old days of blogging, before sponsored posts were a thing and we all just shared random things. Erin of Living in Yellow is starting a 30-day challenge called #bringbackmyblog, and I’m all about it. I definitely encourage everyone to read her post When You Realize Your Blog Sucks if you want to feel refreshed about this whole blogging dealio.
I’m interested to hear what you think of the blogging world currently. Do you feel like the content you see or read is pretty authentic? If you’re a blogger, how do you maintain an authentic relationship with your audience especially if your blog is monetized?
Have the best weekend!

Love this post! I haven’t officially launched my blog, because I keep hoarding stuff to “make it better” and pushing my launch back. This was such a refreshing and inspiring read :) thanks! Kim

Wow! I’m totally in love with #4 – what a great idea! I miss the old days of blogging too! It was a much simpler (and friendlier) time back then.
