Design isn’t something you can just read a book about and fully understand. It takes so much practice to start recognizing the important details and paying attention to things like color theory, white space, etc. It took me a while to even call myself someone with an “eye for design” because I wasn’t born savvy in this field. I prefer things that are more objective and mathematical like coding. Design is interesting because although it’s subjective and everyone can have their own style, there are still a few “dos and donts” that most designers follow.
Today we’ve rounded up a few posts from different bloggers on various design subjects. Maybe you can learn something new from them!
1. Recently, Bre of Rowan Made posted a fresh look at color theory. She explains the color wheel and color psychology, but also shares that it’s okay to break the rules and go with your gut. Definitely using this as a resource for my own rebrand!
2. Typography is another design principle that takes some practice to master. Mariah Althoff’s list of typography do’s and don’ts is super detailed and informative. Check it out!
3. Many people don’t even think about white space but it still impacts which designs they are drawn to. Learn more about it in this post on why white space is important in design by Sandra of ThatDay.
4. Finally, we love Amanda Schoedel Creative’s non-designer guide to web designer terms. She goes over the subjects mentioned above and so many more! So handy if you’re just getting started with design.
Hope you enjoy this weekend reading! What other design-related things do you want to learn more about?
