We’ve shared legal advice for bloggers in the past, but this is a subject I think we should always revisit every now and then. Diving into the world of blogging and freelancing is usually a trial-and-error process, for better or for worse. But why not avoid making legal mistakes in the first place by gathering advice from the experts? Although I haven’t gotten in legal trouble as a blogger or freelancer, there are many things I wish I knew when I was first starting out. Like how to create a policy page, record my blogging income correctly, and write a detailed contract for clients. And I know there are several other areas of small business I still need to read up on!
Since blogging is a new market, it seems that its legal issues are ever changing. New ones may be developed when new issues arise, so it’s nice to stay in the know. This week, we collected a few posts covering several legal issues that bloggers and freelancers commonly come across. Enjoy!
1. Over on Gemma Bonham-Carter’s site, Jackie shares 6 legal issues you need to understand as a blogger. From money issues to email newsletters, she addresses so many small (and large) issues that we encounter all the time as bloggers and freelancers.
2. It almost sounds crazy that getting involved in a blogging lawsuit is actually possible. But unfortunately, it is! Check out Christina’s post outlining 5 ways you can avoid the threat of a blogging lawsuit. Stay out of blogging jail! ;)
3. I loved reading Donata’s guest post on Studio Krystal answering tons of legal questions for bloggers and small business owners. She covers copyrights, contracts, and everything in between. So useful!
4. Read through this post on By Rosanna to learn several important legal rules and conditions for bloggers. She goes over guidelines for your website, newsletters, and blogging income. Definitely bookmarking this one!
On a lighter note, do you have any fun plans for the weekend? It’s been a snowy week up here in Portland but I’m hoping to get out of the house and spend some quality time away from my laptop. Hope you have a restful few days!
