Deciding to start a small business is so exciting. Whether you’re starting an Etsy shop, a coaching biz, a blog that you hope will take off, or something else, it’s always really fun in the beginning. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can get in the way of experiencing joy as a creative entrepreneur. Things like self-doubt, comparison, and everyone asking if you’re “actually making money”. Ha.
This week, we’re featuring posts that address the downsides of running a business and give helpful advice on how to stay positive and motivated! I already feel inspired to practice all of these tips intentionally next week.
1. I loved reading The Every Girl’s encouraging post on how to stay positive as a new entrepreneur. We really do have a lot of control over how we choose to take care of ourself and what we choose to focus on.
2. If your daily routine as an entrepreneur has gotten a little monotonous, you’ll love Jen Carrington’s roundup for 10 things to read or listen to if you’re aching for more joy & fulfillment in your routine as a creative business owner.
3. Sometimes you have to recognize what is holding you back and let those things go in order to experience the positive side of entrepreneurship. Rekita Nicole posted a list of 5 things holding you back in business, and pretty much all of these things resonated with me.
4. The other night, I stayed up until 4am finishing a project. Not cool. The next few nights, I went to bed slightly earlier but definitely didn’t get a healthy amount of sleep. In the back of my mind, I knew I would be so much happier during my work day if I would just sign off at night. I’m a big fan of this post on Chapter Friday on how to switch off your work mode at night. It’s so vital that we take time to ourselves and learn to rest.
Well, it’s finally the weekend! I hope you all can sign off for a while and do something that makes you happy. I’m going to a bunny festival tomorrow (yep those exist), and I’m going to try to relax and sign off for most of the weekend. See you Monday!

Jen Carrington always dishes out great advice! I’ll have to check out that post about switching off the work day mode. I’ve found myself up too late more nights than I can count. It definitely throws off your day.

Awesome post! I sometimes get stuck in the mindset that a blog isn’t a business, since I tend to view a business as just those on Etsy, but it is! These are very helpful tips. Thank you!
