To be honest, styling photos has never been a natural gift for me, but it’s something I’ve been practicing since we began The Blog Market! As much as we love all of the stock photo options out there, we decided to only use our own images in our posts. This has been a great way to practice our photography and find our blog aesthetic, and it’s also been an excuse to buy way too many cute props (no regrets). Check out the links below for some great blog posts on styling your photos!
1. One of the best things I’ve learned about styling photos is that you can crop a single photo in so many different ways! Read this post by Deluxemodern Design to learn six ways to use one photo to keep your brand consistent across the board.
2. If you’re on Instagram a lot, you’re probably very familiar with the “flat lay”. Here’s an amazing post by Stephanie of Small Talk Social sharing how to style a flat lay 5 ways.
3. Styling beautiful photos is possible even if you’re on a tight budget. Visit Think Creative for ten photo prop ideas under $10 plus a bunch of great tips!
4. I love all of these blogger tips and tricks for styling and shooting photos. Courtney of A Thoughtful Place shares tons of helpful advice about how to showcase your work and tell a story with your images.
I’ve been trying to get in the habit of taking styled photos a couple days a week even if they aren’t for specific blog posts. It’s so fun to experiment with different setups, and the photos usually come in handy eventually. :)
Do you enjoy styling your own blog photos? Any advice for those who are just beginning?

I love styling photos, it’s one of my favourite things! I do a lot of food posts so I like use a wipe clean board so that I can add in crumbs or drip some of the sauce around the image which adds a bit of interest! Thank you for sharing these resources, I especially love the flatlay post for inspiration!

i just carry my iPhone everywhere anyway but mainly to take photos on the fly! I use them all the time everywhere~ very handy! You can also change a pic to black and white for a new look . Today I used a photo and a video on IG of coffee latte to tell a story. Very fun stuff :) Thanks for the post.

Also forgot to mention that you can use a premed “mockup” to create your own scenes. I love Custom Scene and I don’t have Photoshop. Tip if you have a mac, just use Keynote and buy png images!

Sorry about this (wish we could edit). “premed” is premade! Custom Scenes site address is: https://customscene.co/shop/pre-made-scenes/pre-made-scene-8/

I really do think the photos can make or break a blog post – which is a little sad as it should be about the writing, but most people are visual, so having beautiful photos to accompany the wonderful words of a blog post is always important.
I still have a lot to learn before I’ll be happy with my photography, but with helpful posts like this one, hopefully it won’t take me too long!
