A huge part of starting a new small business is listening to advice and stories from people who have been in the same situation. There definitely isn’t a shortage of small biz advice on the internet, so you won’t have trouble finding it. The trick is finding tips that are actually effective for your unique situation and filtering out some of the noise. While searching for today’s resources, I found dozens of blog posts all about what I should and shouldn’t do as a new small business owner, all the mistakes I’m making, etc. I’m sure there were good intentions behind many of those posts, but to be honest, they just felt overwhelming and pushy. It took me a while to find four posts that were actually helpful, encouraging, and realistic for new business owners. But I found them. :) Enjoy!
1. Starting a new business is an exciting journey, but it’s important to have a little knowledge before diving in. Read Career Girl Daily’s 5 things you should know before starting a business for some very useful tips!
2. If you’ve recently jumped into the world of creative entrepreneurship, then you’ve probably heard the world “hustle” a lot. Angela and I aren’t big fans of this word because it’s just not how we do business. Fiona Humberstone of The Brand Stylist shared an awesome post about forgetting the hustle and embracing a better way of doing business, which is exactly what I needed to hear this week. Thanks Fiona!
3. Learning from your mistakes is one of the best ways to grow, especially in a career that is full of trial and error. I love Jacy Pulford’s post 3 Ways My Past Mistakes Helped My Business on The Wonder Forest! She takes her mistakes and uses them to define, build, and fuel her business. Super inspiring!
4. We all want to have a business that is fulfilling, rewarding, and makes us truly happy. Jordanna of The House of Muses wrote a great post about how you can create a business that makes you feel good every day! Yes please.
Are you a new business owner or planning to start a small business in the future? What are the best things you’ve learned about the process so far?
Have a nice weekend!
