The Monday before Christmas and we’re telling you how to sign up for more to do? I know. But a week later it will be New Years and it’s nice to develop new habits to get you prepared. We love taking online workshops to learn new skills, not only because it’s super helpful when you need to learn a specific thing like coding or email marketing, but it’s a great way to expand your knowledge when you’re out of college like we are. I knew we had to get this post up, too, because some are offering discount codes for the holidays. Yay for class on the cheap!
1. Skillshare. Offers thousands of online classes on anything from business to creative writing to DIY, all by experts who upload videos. Users rate the classes so you instantly know when a class is loved by many. Each teacher also uploads assignments, giving you a way to share what you’ve learned and connect with other students. So far I’ve enjoyed the photography classes I’ve taken the most. Pricing: They’re offering a premium account (access to unlimited classes) for .99 cents a month for three months, down from $10 a month, which is already well worth it, in my opinion!
2. Lynda. Lynda (a LinkedIn company), has a similar vibe for those interested in learning about business, software, and creative skills. Unlike Skillshare, these courses are uploaded by professionals at Lynda in their studio. There are a lot of classes based on specific programs like Microsoft and Adobe, so they’re definitely more on the technical end. Definitely helpful for those looking for a resume boost too! Pricing: Two tiered pricing, based on the services you’d like.
3. CreativeLive. With CreativeLive you pay by the class, and they’re more specific and involved then a lot of other online courses. They have a ton of very unique creative classes, like scrapbooking and floral design, as well as those helpful for small biz owners and even Etsy sellers. They have a live stream of scheduled classes you can RSVP to as well. Pricing: $30+. They’re having a promotion with 40% various classes.
4. Modern Thrive. Each workshop features 3 hour-long live video sessions with handpicked instructors, email lessons, and a workbook to help you take what you’ve learned and apply it to real life. Unlike some of the other websites, Modern Thrive has more of a personal development angle for those not quite sure what their next professional and creative step in life is. The course selections will be most relevant for artists and crafters. Pricing: $97 each, but TBM readers get $30 off any workshop with code blogmarketvip.
5. Be Free, Lance. This is a freelance course made just for those who want to gain the skills and inspiration to kick start their career as freelancer designers. Jenn (an online class connoisseur!) took it before launching Earl Grey Creative and really loved all the podcasts, interviews, worksheets, and support from both Breanna Rose + Jen Serafini and other students she received. It may be scary thinking of whether you want to commit to the intensive 3-week course, but you will have access to everything you learned indefinitely. Pricing: $295 for standard registration (closed currently.)
