Happy Friday! How was your week? I had more free time than usual and was able to catch up on lots of blog reading. Sometimes I get way behind and then Bloglovin’s like “you have 200+ unread posts!” Yikes. Anyway, now that I’ve gotten through all of them, here are my favorites of the week:
(top left, clockwise)
1. Whenever somebody asks, “How do you make money blogging?” I never know what to say a) because I don’t really monetize my blogs at the moment and b) because it totally depends on you and your blog. What works for one blogger may not work for another. I love this breakdown of blog monetization by In Honor of Design. Anna shares five different ways of monetizing blogs and what each method entails.
2. You know those monthly subscriptions that you completely forget about until you’re randomly charged $10 at the end of every month? Adobe Creative Suite is not one of those subscriptions. I use Adobe programs every single day and never feel like they are going unused. Check out this post by The B Bar about Adobe Creative Suite and when/how to invest in it.
3. The other night I stumbled upon the blog Made Vibrant, and I am so glad! Caroline has such an authentic and positive outlook on creativity and business. She wrote a wonderful post inspired by some wise words of Oprah about having the courage to show people that you believe in yourself. This resonated so deeply with me. I’ve always been an ambitious person with wild hopes and dreams. At the same time, I have not always felt confident discussing those dreams. I think it’s all about finding a balance. If you believe in yourself and learn how to speak confidently about your dreams, people will see it and support you. You don’t necessarily have to be fierce and extroverted.
4. Everyone is an expert. Have you noticed that lately? I enjoyed reading Sophie’s post on The Private Life of a Girl about all of this expert advice floating around the interwebs. I feel like there are a few different ways to look at this. On the one hand, it’s good to be confident in your field. If you have expert advice then yeah, hopefully everybody will want to hear it. Sharing resources is my favorite thing ever. But since expertise is relative and all people have different personalities and goals, I’ve gotta say I truly love when people are just like, “Hey! This is my story. It worked for me and it might work for you too. No big deal.” Sharing experiences can sometimes be even more valuable than sharing “perfected” solutions to success.
Anything I’m forgetting? Share your favorite posts of the week in the comments below. Here’s to a restful weekend!
