I really love a good logo. Everyone has their own idea of what makes a good one and how a logo’s vibe can reach a specific audience. Still, there are a few basics you need to know before kicking off this part of your branding, for your blog/biz/both. There’s a TON of writing on this subject out there, but I think a few quick tips are a good place to start!
1. This post by Little Dot Creative is actually why a logo #weeklyresources topic came to mind. I’ve been involved with a lot of design and facilitation of designs working for a media company and if clients are all over the place, it makes it way harder for the designer to really produce work that 100% fits them. If you’re thinking of outsourcing some/all of your branding–being able to set expectations on both ends is going to be a huge help!
2. Let me tell you, I searched through a loooot of posts for today’s resources, and Design Eat Repeat’s secrets to a successful logo design was one of my faves. There are so many articles out there that claim to teach you all you need to know, but barely cover the basic–this isn’t one of them! There are lots of things you might not have considered before too.
3. Love + Color did a three part series on logo creation, and my favorite was this five minute logo. This is great for anyone who wants to experiment with creating their own before hooking up with a designer or diving into logos from scratch.
4. This post on understanding file formats is ancient in by blog world standards, but this handy graphic is all you need to learn the different types of files from .PNG to .PSD and more. Really important when creating logos that will be used over all of your business collateral.
Have a good weekend!
