Happy first resources of the new year! It’s been awhile since we’ve posted Weekly Resources, and to be honest we almost scrapped this post altogether (and I’m still thinking of following up on this subject soon). In 2017 we saw so many of our favorite blogs completely change up their blog schedules, posting new content less and less frequently. Of course, most of them were busy building a consistent and robust Instagram strategy, or spending time in Facebook groups, so the way they posted simply shifted.
We thought we’d see a lot on the subject, but it turns out, not that many people are talking about this new content strategy specifically. I think that’s because there’s no longer one rule about posting. For awhile, lifestyle bloggers were all about daily content. Then, many bloggers, us included, found that posting 3x a week allowed us to create great content while maintaining consistency and keeping traffic up. In 2017, the lines blurred even more, and with Instagram taking up so much time, I think a lot of bloggers shifted their strategy.
After weeks and weeks of searching for helpful posts (and wading through all those blogs with great SEO but not-so-great tips), we’ve finally found a few lifestyle bloggers who have shared their opinions on how often you should post. As suspected, this experience is different for everyone, so we didn’t find many game-changing “rules” to follow. But we love hearing all our fellow bloggers’ stories and advice, so we’ve included our favorites below.
As we started learning how other bloggers plan their posting schedules, we saw this helpful article that Madison of Joyfully Made wrote about why she stopped posting 5x a week. Makes complete sense! (*Edit, her site seems to be down right now, but I’m keeping it here in hopes that it will come back soon!)
When it comes to posting content, it should really be about what works for you. Laura Jacques’ post on mastering your overall schedule is more than just a few tips, too–it’s a guide to getting inspired, creating a long term strategy, and staying on top of your content.
We love these myths about blogging frequency from Entrepreneurs Unstuck because they’re so simple and yet will totally inspire you to improve your blogging experience while keeping your readers in mind.
Back in March of last year, beauty blogger Brett Robson posted about blogging frequency in her blogging 101 series. Even though we’ve seen this trend of updating blogs less and posting on social media more, her points about consistency and considering the type of content you produce is still really relevant.
What do you predict will happen in terms of blog content and posting strategies in 2018? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
