Happy August! We’re basically there, right? As I write this, I’ve hardly gotten sleep because I have this thing with making truly unattainable to-dos and then if something goes wrong (like the last minute projects that rose to the top of the list), I’m totally, for lack of a better word, screwed. Yikes! But before that I spent a lot of this week reading blogs, creative books (two off our list actually), this amazing post on zen habits, and muuuch more. My reading kept leading me back to a few things: working from home, being self-employed and not going crazy, staying creative, and experiencing burnout. I’m not sure if all this relates in your mind as much as it does mine, but when we found these four resources, I was connecting all sorts of dots.
Self-care is important all the time, but it has a particular significance when it comes to creativity in that if you don’t practice it, you can struggle with that too. I’m hoping to see more posts like these because they’re just as important (actually more, to me) as how to boost your SEO or get more Instagram followers. That’s all great but if we’re not taking care of ourselves and nurturing our creativity, then I think we’re straying from why we started our projects/biz/blogging in the first place!
1. Keizra’s post on sharing your creative story is a must read. It takes you back to why you want to be creative in the first place and helps you see what it is you have to offer. I loved that she talks about sharing where you’ve been and where you’re headed. Often we think we have to put on this veil of authority without sharing experience instead of just being real. Real all the way!
2. Strangely, *right* after I saved A Girl, Obsessed’s post on bouncing back from burnout, I realized she had included The Blog Market in this awesome feature (thanks, Mandy!). Anyway, whether you’re a part- or full-time blogger, burnout can strike if you don’t practice self care. She’s got some unique ideas for combatting it!
3. Did you guys see Francesca of Fall for DIY’s story on how she got started as a creative blogger? She tells a story that’s not unlike most of our own. Theme of the day: If you have a story (and you do), don’t be afraid to tell it!
4. Another self care post, Lexi shared what to do when you’re overwhelmed and it’s something we should all have in our back pockets! Prioritizing is a big one, I usually ignore it because everything seems to be a priority when you’re overwhelmed, but it’s the key to getting started!
Will you be doing anything creative this weekend? Jennifer is off to the Bahamas (yes, I am just as jealous) but I think I’m going to just enjoy the sunshine and stay on top of my reading list! PS: If these inspire any posts, be sure to let us know by tagging #weeklyresources on twitter & Instagram! Can’t wait to read them.

Awesome post! I work as a FT marketing director, have a family, & blog. I definitely feel ya on burnout. My go to method is a lunch time workout It’s a nice break from everyone and everything.
(completely unrelated, but I emailed you yesterday. Your advertising link is broken and I’m interested in partnering!)
