Good morning! Way back when, we did a post on our favorite VSCO Cam filters to use on Instagram, and ever since I’ve gotten lots of questions on which I use for my on Insta. So, we posted a bit about how we edit our photos for Instagram, which of course for me included VSCO! As promised, I have more to say about the app, and this time it’s all about the best colors to use.
One thing I’ve noticed about VSCO is that in order to make the most of it you have to choose a filter that complements the type of photography you do the most. Even if you don’t stick to a certain photography style with your Instagrams–we pretty much just post whatever pretty iPhone photos we’re feeling that day!–it’s still worth thinking of which filters will enhance your lifestyle photo. For example, on my personal Instagram, I’ve been using the filter q5 which is part of the Alchemy collection (I think it might be a paid pack now, but it was a promo when I downloaded). This is because I post a lot of pinks and purple hues, and since it has a purple hue, it gives them a dreamier vibe.
It didn’t make sense to show you the same photo with the different filters, so I chose a photo that conveyed just how each filter changes the tones of the photo. Along with the ones listed (I’ve listed the ones shown above first in each series), here are some other filters I think work best depending on what colors you want to enhance in your own photography:
Deep Reds – C1, SE3, K3 (for high contrast), S6
Pink + Purple – Q5, F1 (for higher contrast)
Bright Whites – S2, S3 (for high contrast/vibrancy)
Monochrome, Cool Tones – A6, A5 HB1, Q2
Vibrant Greens – K1, C1 (as well), S3
Vintage Film – F2, M5, P5, T1 (basically, most classics)
I’ll be sure to add more to this list as I learn more about the rest of the filters! Let me know if you use VSCO, and have any questions!

I love HB1 and HB2. When the pictures are light I use the first filter and when they have darker colors I go for the second one. I think it’s a very neat and clean filter, but it can look a bit cold sometimes.

Oh definitely! That’s a great tip about using one for light and one for darker images.

Great post! My fave to use is HB1. I love a very crisp, clean, cold feed :)
