Hello and happy Monday! I did a little DIY to refresh my *teeny tiny* desk space over the weekend, so I thought I’d share it here. Have you guys seen these cute votive holders for sale at Ikea? I’ve seen them used for anything from makeup brush holders (I do that too) to office supply storage. They’re only about $2 each and are the perfect size. Only thing is, I have a lot of white going on in my workspace right now. A lot. I wanted to break it up a bit without going with color since I’m not sure exactly how I want my office color scheme to go just yet. Here’s what I did so you can do it too! Super easy…
Took my cups outside because spray paint is awful stuff. Then I just wrapped a bit of tissue paper around the tops so I could get a dip-dyped look. I didn’t want it to be clean-cut so I didn’t bother taping anything down. I just tucked the tissue over the top, making it easy to remove the paper afterward. Repeat for all three at different heights.
Let ’em dry and there you have it! The Valspar metallic paint worked quite nicely, I think. I had asked the sales associate at Lowe’s what the difference between all the silvers were and he was all, “Uh, this one’s more metallic.” Riiiight. So naturally I went with the cheapest one, because that didn’t make sense.
Obviously I had to divide all my pens and markers into different color categories: Purples/reds, blues/greens, and blues/black. So fun! Not pictured is me picking up all the pens and reorganizing them again when two hours later my cat jumped on the shelf and knocked every single thing over. Sigh.
