If you read our post on why we still love Pinterest, you know that we are pretty active users. We even made an account for The Blog Market, even though we are both always pinning on our own accounts. I’d still love this platform even if the only thing it did for me was offer a place to save allll the pretty flowers, but there are actually a ton of practical reasons to use Pinterest, and today I want to talk about organization, and how Pinterest board sections can help with that.
It was actually my sister who encouraged me to first try Pinterest’s board sections feature, where you can divide up existing boards into different sections (like little sub-boards). At first it seemed a little excessive, why not just make a new board? But just like a to-do list or folders on a desktop, it’s easy to have a lot of related sub-items to include, that all fall under one major category.
Why use Pinterest board sections?
- It helps you find pins easily on your larger boards–less scrolling/searching!
- It allows you to pin more ideas without always creating a new board
- It makes it easier for other pinners to get inspired by what you pin, leading them on your journey/thought process
My Favorite way to use Pinterest board sections:
My personal favorite way to use them is on private boards that I use for planning. For example, I have one secret board called “vision board” which is literally a vision board for my LIFE. Talk about general! This is a personal board that I use for inspiration in all things lifestyle; it’s a way to manifest and check in with goals related to personal growth. On this particular board, I was able to divide it info a few sections, such as wellness, recipes, style, interiors, etc.–all of the areas that I’m wanting to improve on, as well as a shopping section where I save things I want to save up for or remember when it comes time to look for new clothes, gifts, or decor.
Another example is when I’m planning shoots for my websites or social media. Here, I can divide it up into the different parts of the shoot I’m planning. If there’s food involved, I’ll have a section of recipes I’m working off of, etc. Then there’s a separate place for visual inspiration. For The Blog Market, we created a board that the two of us can always see and divided it into sections. One has inspiration for our Friday Favorites series, one for resources, product roundups etc. In that way, it’s less like a place to find inspiration and more as a big, organized, shared bookmark. We do have a branding inspo section, though!
How Pinterest board sections can inspire you:
I find these sections most inspiring when I have a practical reason behind the board. If my board is simply all about inspiration in a particular category, I don’t necessarily find it useful or inspiring to have it divided up into sections. But having that added level of organization helps inspire me because I can focus on that specific section. I really love it for my vision board! If I have a little extra money for a new product, for example, I can just head to my fashion section and choose which item to invest in next. It’s helpful for me in my journey to become a more conscious, mindful shopper rather than just browse shops aimlessly. So in that way it really inspires my lifestyle.
And as I mentioned above, we use it for our blogs and business too. Have you used Pinterest board sections yet? Let us know your experience!
