Good morning! Let’s talk about freelancing. Through my experience as a freelancer, I’ve learned that the internet provides a lot of advice but there is still so much to learn by trial and error. The lessons I have learned are so valuable to me and I know this year I’ll continue to change my process in small ways as I figure out what works best for my clients and me. Today I’m sharing four posts full of advice that I really wish I would have read before I began freelancing. Still so glad to be bookmarking these links now. :)
1. A big part of freelancing is the “hustle”. It takes a lot of hard work to get started and build a foundation of clients. However, another big part of freelancing is taking time off. In my opinion, this is just as important as the hustle because remembering to practice self-care and giving yourself rest on the weekends will give you so much more energy to work harder during your work week. In this post, Abigail Ahern discusses the importance of taking weekends off and how taking breaks is actually productive!
2. Freelancers – have you ever been asked what your profession is and you’re like, “Umm I do a little of this and a little of that” and you struggle to find a way to explain exactly what it is you do? Vari of Butter Cup Pink shared a very helpful post on what to call yourself if you are a multi-talented freelancer. Hint: it’s less about what you do and more about who you do it for. Love this perspective!
3. If you’re working a full-time job while freelancing, it can be really easy to let important business tasks pile up. Luckily, Kelsey of Pinegate Road has shared 6 comprehensive ways to keep up with business tasks while you’re maintaining your freelance career as well as your full-time job. Seriously so thankful for this post.
4. Maybe you’re not freelancing yet but it’s something you really want to get into. Whenever a friend tells me they want to freelance I’m like, “doooooo it!!!!” However, there are some questions that might be handy to ask before diving in. Visit BFBAF for 6 things to consider before becoming a freelancer.
Side note – If you’re thinking about becoming a freelance designer but need some guidance, I highly recommend taking Be, Free Lance! If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a 3-week long online workshop that covers everything from defining your strengths and presenting yourself to pricing and client management. Breanna Rose and Jen Serafini, who teach the workshop, are the real deal. I took Be Free, Lance about a year ago and still haven’t stopped talking about it. The next workshop begins March 28th, and they also have mini courses you can take at any time.
Do you have any advice for other creative freelancers? I’d love to hear!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Brooklyn!
Blogging is when you’re just sharing posts with readers, like what we do here on The Blog Market. Freelancing is when you provide services to clients (web design, photography, writing, art, etc).
Hope that explains it!
